PUBLISHED UKRAINIAN HELIODOR — A PIECE OF MINERAL HISTORY.

Some specimens are beautiful. Some have incredible provenance. And every once in a while, you find one that has everything.

This extraordinary 163 gram etched Heliodor from Volodarsk-Volynskii, Ukraine is one of those pieces.

The color is absolutely next level — rich, glowing golden-yellow with incredible transparency. But it’s the wild natural etching that really makes this crystal special. Deep geometric dissolution patterns cover the specimen, creating an almost architectural surface that changes completely as you turn it in the light.

And then there’s the provenance.

This exact crystal was published on page 74 of Private Mineral Collections of Texas I, the 2009 Mineralogical Record supplement, while part of the renowned Jim & Imelda Klein Collection, with photography by legendary mineral photographer Jeff Scovil.

Holding the specimen directly over its published photograph is such a cool moment. Same crystal. Same unmistakable architecture. Now part of my collection.

Presented on a handcrafted Sunnywood custom base, this is the combination I’m always hunting for: color, gemminess, sculptural form, provenance and documented history.

Pieces like this are irreplaceable.
