An exceptional Amazonite with Smoky Quartz from the Jack Rabbit Mine, Crystal Creek near Crystal Peak, Teller County, Colorado — featuring richly saturated blue-green Amazonite surrounded by beautifully contrasting Smoky Quartz.

And then there’s that towering, sharply terminated Smoky Quartz crystal rising straight out of the composition. The contrast between the electric Amazonite and deep smoky tones gives this piece incredible presence and makes it instantly recognizable as classic Colorado material.

But what really makes this specimen special is the provenance.

According to the original collection label, this 337 gram cabinet specimen was collected by Bob Bartsch and Rock H. Currier during six weeks of digging in the summer of 1986. It was later acquired in 1990 and became part of the legendary Rock H. Currier Collection — No. 5641.

Nearly four decades later, the specimen, its history, and its original documentation remain together. That’s what collecting is all about — not simply owning a beautiful mineral, but becoming the next caretaker of a piece of mineral history.
