An incredible Amazonite with Smoky Quartz from the Jack Rabbit Mine, Crystal Creek near Crystal Peak, Lake George, Teller County, Colorado, USA.

The contrast is killer—rich blue-green Amazonite crystals surrounded by deep, dark Smoky Quartz, with that dramatic terminated smoky crystal rising above the cluster. Classic Colorado material with serious presence.

But the history takes this piece to another level. According to the original collection label, this 337 gram cabinet specimen was dug by Bob Bartsch and Rock H. Currier during six weeks of collecting in the summer of 1986. It was later acquired in 1990 and became part of The Rock H. Currier Collection — No. 5641.

Having the original labels documenting who dug it, when it was recovered, and its collection history is exactly the kind of provenance I love. Nearly 40 years after it came out of the ground, this beauty is still telling its story.
