MIRROR HEMATITE — NATURAL REFLECTION
OtherMIRROR HEMATITE — NATURAL REFLECTION
This Hematite from the N’Chwaning Mine, Northern Cape, South Africa is absolutely mesmerizing.
The first thing that grabs you is that incredible mirror-like metallic face—smooth, highly reflective, and almost looking like polished metal. But this is nature doing the work. The brilliant steel-black surface has such an intense metallic luster that the crystal literally behaves like a little natural mirror.
Turn it slightly in the light and the entire face flashes from deep black to bright silver-blue reflections. The sharp geometry, dramatic form, and insane reflectivity give this piece a presence way beyond its size.
I love specimens like this because they remind you just how many completely different forms of art the Earth can create.
A natural mirror millions of years in the making.
