PLEOCHROISM AT ITS FINEST.
One crystal… multiple personalities.
This 52 gram Rubaya tourmaline from the famed Rubaya Pegmatite in North Kivu, DR Congo is a perfect reminder of why tourmaline sits in a class of its own. As I slowly rotate it under the light at my desk, the crystal transforms from electric emerald green to warm golden olive, revealing the incredible pleochroism that makes exceptional tourmalines so captivating.
Every slight movement uncovers a completely different side of the crystal. It’s almost impossible to look away as the colors shift, the transparency glows, and the internal world comes alive against the computer screen.
Rubaya continues to produce some of the world’s finest gem tourmalines, but crystals with this level of color, size, and optical performance are becoming increasingly difficult to source. This is exactly the kind of specimen that reminds me why the hunt never gets old.
