Illinois magic with every color in the spectrum…
This newly acquired Cave-In-Rock District fluorite is exactly why my Illinois obsession keeps growing.
At first glance, the deep royal-purple cubes steal the show, but spend a little time with it and the colors begin to reveal themselves. Electric violet transitions into rich magenta, subtle lavender, and flashes of icy blue depending on how the light moves through the crystal. It’s the kind of fluorite that never looks the same twice.
Adding even more character are the natural bitumen inclusions scattered across the crystal faces, along with tiny chalcopyrite accents that create incredible contrast against the saturated fluorite. Flip the specimen around and lustrous barite crystals complete the composition perfectly, giving it that unmistakable Cave-In-Rock aesthetic collectors dream about.
Color. Associations. Transparency. Presence.
Everything that makes Illinois fluorite legendary wrapped into one specimen.
